Ideas management experts Crowdicity travel to ITU Telecoms World in Qatar to mentor promising young innovators.
Crowdicity, the online ideas management platform provider, is continuing its successful relationship with the International Telecommunication Union – part of the United Nations - by joining the winners of the Young Innovators competition for four days of mentoring and innovation workshops at the ITU Telecom World summit in Doha, Qatar.
Running from December 7-10th, the Young Innovators Competition is an annual ITU Telecom Initiative, aimed at talented young social entrepreneurs who are using technology to creatively meet a range of real-life developmental challenges. The selected winners with the most exciting ideas or start-ups are then invited to Telecom World for a four-day accelerator programme of pitching sessions, workshops and mentoring – as well as the opportunity to win up to USD 10,000 in seed funding.
The competition was supported by an online ideas platform, powered by Crowdicity, allowing young people from anywhere in the world to engage with challenges and contribute, refine and evolve ideas. Exploring how ICT can help solve some of the world’s biggest problems, the challenges included solutions around open source technologies for disaster relief whilst the World Health Organisation hosted a challenge around smart city solutions for tackling climate change.
The Crowdicity’s platform powered the entire initiative, bringing together over 8000 young innovators from all over the world to share ideas and collaborate through the platform.
This is the first year that Crowdicity has been involved in the project – with the response from the public being the most impressive to date. The flexibility of the cloud-based platform allowed for increased participation from innovators from around the globe, providing a space for the world’s most forward-thinking young people to suggest solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems. The competition received over 800 applications from 99 countries in response to four challenges; making it the most successful year on record.
Winning ideas include a social application which mitigates the negative effects of climate change in real time and a design for a network of waste disposal bins that automatically alerts the local municipality when full.
Blaise Judja-Sato, Executive Manager at ITU Telecom World, added: “We are delighted that Crowdicity are joining us at our upcoming ITU Telecom World 2014 event, as inspirational mentors for the winners of the 2014 Young Innovators Competition. We are truly fortunate to have such talented organisations acting as mentors, their collective wisdom and experience mean they have valued insights to share with our competition winners.”
