Wow! What a fantastic success. The numbers say it all.
The BYND2015 Global Youth Summit is a platform for young people to lend their voice and influence decisions at the United Nations on the Future We Want.
Over 600 young participants from 68 countries gathered in San José, 9-11 September 2013 along with over 4000 young people around the world who joined the discussion virtually to contribute their ideas from 50 hubs in 30 different countries using the Crowdicity ideas platform and other social media channels.
Powered by Crowdicity, the BYND2015 Ideas platform has to date generated over 1000 unique ideas where the global youth community has voted over 15,000 times and provided more than 12,000 comments. Tens of thousands of people joined the conversation via social media with a combined reach on Twitter alone of over 16 million. The online conversation took place in 74 languages, where education, health and access to ICTs ranked as the highest trending topics.
“Crowdicity has enabled us to have an insight into issues that affect young people from all over the world. Crowdicity has brought an entirely new perspective and dimension to the Summit and has brought young people together from around the world, uniting them in a common cause that highlights the need to use ICTs for the good of society so that everyone can benefit in the future.”Robert Shaw, Head, Innovation Division, International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, Switzerland
To paraphrase the final paragraph of the Summit Declaration, this is not an outcome but rather a starting place for continued dialogue for the young people of the world to be included as full partners in the post-2015 global development process. So stayed tuned!
